A home business or small business start up often only has one employee - the owner. This makes balancing life and work a bit of a challenge.
Most people who have a full time job struggle with the concept of balancing life and work. For small business owners, who usually do the jobs of several people to cut costs, the challenge is even harder. However, to make sure they continue to stay healthy and energized, even the most dedicated business owners need to learn to take time to relax and to hang out with their families. Set Business HoursWhen most people work outside of the house, they put in a nine to five day and head for home. They rarely spend another eight or 10 hours doing additional work at the kitchen table. However, when someone works from home, it can be a lot harder to leave work behind. Those emails that still need to be composed or those packages that need to be shipped are merely a few feet away and before he or she realizes it, the home business owner has put in another five or six hours of work. While people who own their own businesses generally put in a bit more than an eight hour day, setting a limit of ten hours a day or setting specific hours helps a business owner keep work from eating up the entire time he or she is awake. Work Smarter to Maximize Work TimeOne of the worst things a small business owner can do is to use the work time he or she has in an ineffective manner. Reading personal email or surfing the web, being distracted by the television, or chatting with a friend who called during work hours are all things that can eat up valuable work time.
Small business owners who are still finding that they spend all their time on work may want to consider getting help from someone who specializes in life coaching. A life coach can often help busy people adjust their schedules to create more balance in their lives by helping them identify and outsource things that are not actively earning money and encouraging them to concentrate on money making tasks that they enjoy. Once a business owner gets all those time consuming little interruptions under control, he or she may just find that working longer hours is not as necessary as it used to be.
