The difference is that you pay a flat out membership fee. While the initial fee may seem high, if you get a lot of work from the site, it could be worth it.

As you first set out to find freelance jobs, you may find that you are doing a lot of work bidding for jobs and applying to classified ads for jobs on places like Craigslist.com. After a while, you will learn which methods work best for you and concentrate your efforts to only those things.
