There will come a time when every retail business owner will contemplate selling his/her products over the Internet.
Profits on the WebThe Internet offers lucrative opportunites for business owners to make money on-line. More and more people are finding satisfaction and feeling more comfortable about acquiring purchases over the Internet. After researching the market for your product, you would have to conduct research into the best vehicle for offering your products on-line. The vehicle would have to include on line acceptance of credit cards and/or checks. Finding the Best ProgramIf there is no website to advertise the company, the business owner would need to design a website or have a website designed. The website should be one that is listed on the major search engines so that people can find it easily. After the website has been designed, the busines owner can add a shopping cart for purchasing the product. There are several companies which offer shopping carts and on-line acceptance of credit cards. The business owner should investigatea few, if not all of them, to determine which one will best suit his needs. Careful consideration of the size of te inventory, prices, rates, and fees should be made as well as the payment methods. Some programs accept credit cards and some accept checks as well. Credibility of TransactionsIn order for the program to be lucrative, the customer must feel secure in purchasing the product. There have been many reports of identity theft and fraud involving credit cards. The business owner should make every attempt to ensure that the customer's records are kept safe. Many of the programs have security measures in place. The business owner can investigate the security measures he can take to ensure that the transacions are safe as well. Keeping Track of SalesIf the owner desires an accurate record of transactions, then he should consider a program which integrates with Quick Books or another major acounting software program. If the program integrates with Quick Books, the owner would be able to export the transactions into Quick Books at the push of a button. However, upon initial set-up of the program, the owner would manually enter the products into the program for on-line acceptance of credit cards. The business owner will eliminate lost sales by making sure the program is user friendly. If the customer has difficulty making transactions, he may seek another website where transactions are easier. Additionaly, the business owner should be prompt in processing the orders. A disgruntled customer is more likely to tell others about his bad experiences than his good ones. Finally, the business owner should make sure the website is attractive, the products are reasonably organized, and are easy to order. On-line sales are an excellent way to supplement the sales transacted at a storefront.
