Starting a daycare in the home may be the best business idea for someone who wants to start a business. For free information on where to begin, start here.

Finding good childcare is hard for parents to do, and so is paying for it. Childcare is expensive, but most families find it necessary. Single parents may have a greater need for childcare than parents who have a partner to help them.

According to "Custodial Mothers and Fathers and Their Child Support: 2005," released by the U.S. Census Bureau in August, 2007, more than a quarter of American children are from single-parent households. Many of the households that do have two parents are dual-income households. Few homes have a stay-at-home parent, so childcare is needed.

Running a daycare is worth considering because of this demand for good childcare. Additionally, it’s not difficult to get into the field. Some people could be running their own businesses as soon as tomorrow, if that’s what they wanted to do.

“Starting your own business” is appealing to millions of people, as shown by the more than nine million monthly internet searches for this and similar search terms. Job security may belong with, “Once upon a time…” Workers can’t depend on their companies; the companies just will not take care of them. For this and other reasons, more people than ever are thinking about starting their own businesses.

Convenient Work at Home Opportunity – Provide Childcare Through in Home Daycare

Providing childcare in their own home is a good option for many people, such as parents who would like to stay at home with their own young children. Senior adults are also choosing to babysit in their homes, finding it an easy way to earn money while enjoying great tax benefits. Starting a daycare can provide the best option in many instances.

Before researching aspects such as business license requirements, and even before deciding whether or not to start a daycare, entrepreneurs should think about several things and then decide whether it is the right business opportunity for them.

What Makes a Good Babysitter? Some Qualities of a Good Childcare Worker or Daycare Provider

Daycare providers should meet some minimum standards, according to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the licensing agency in Illinois. Most states appear to agree, as they also have regulations regarding who can work with children. Personalities and traits of childcare teachers will vary across a wide spectrum, but good babysitters do have some basic characteristics in common. Good childcare workers:

  • like children and are willing to meet children’s needs
  • put children’s needs above children’s wants
  • are kind but firm in dealing with children
  • enjoy learning and are patient with little learners
  • understand child development and what’s normal for each stage of growth
  • are knowledgeable regarding childhood illnesses and communicable diseases
  • have common sense and utilize safety practices at all times, and
  • have not been convicted of abusing children or the elderly.

Offering childcare in one's home can be a good option for the right person. Running an in-home daycare can be a convenient work at home opportunity. It can provide an income and fulfilling work, and good childcare is a service that working parents need, but whether or not to start an in-home daycare is a decision that should be made carefully.
